Summary: | A method for estimating the Poisson's ratio of soil from the in situ results of soil stiffness measurement is presented in detail. The results of measuring the settling of soil layers beneath a bearing plate via settlement gauges and that of measuring the dry density of soil before and after the loading are analyzed. A clear correlation between the soil stiffness and the Poisson’s ratio is observed. Three similar magnitudes of the Poisson’s ratio are calculated by three independent algorithms. |
