This work intends to reflect, from Cratylus dialogue by Plato, on the precision of names, which is the topic of a conversation among the three characters in this work (Sócrates, Hermógenes and Cratylus). Starting from the existing thesis, there is the conventionalist one approached by Hermógenes, and Cratylus, who advocates the naturalistic strand. Mediating conceptions, Socrates is the creditor of essences attempting to lead the other participants in the conversation to true knowledge, which is not embedded in the name as in a mere instrument, but rather in the philosophical approach, which Plato used in this dialogue, to expose his theory of the World of Ideas, his conception of truth. The purpose of this reflection on Plato's Cratylus dialogue is to establish a relationship between the correctness of names and the Platonic conception, in addition to addressing the "oracular" way that Cratylus, the character, is treated in relation to the apposition to the precision of names.
