Description
Summary:Introduction: sub-prosthetic stomatitis is the lesion that prevails in the oral mucosa of patients with prostheses and the diagnosis of patients with this disease is still high, preventing the realization of the new prosthetic device. Objective: to characterize the behavior of sub-prosthetic stomatitis in the prosthesis department of the “Hermanos Cruz” University Polyclinic during the period from May 2018 to January 2019. Method: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 122 patients from 50 years of age and older with the diagnosis of sub-prosthetic stomatitis, who received stomatological care in the indicated period. Interrogation and clinical examination was performed. Results: sub-prosthetic stomatitis predominated in the 60-69 age group and females were the most affected. In 122 patients, subprosthesis grade II stomatitis was detected, 54,9 % of those affected were carriers of total prostheses, 66,4 % used it for more than five years and 81,2 % permanently. Conclusions: sub-prosthetic stomatitis predominated in patients with total prosthetic rehabilitation used for years and permanently.
