Summary: | The TV host Synnøve Svabø, directing her entertainment show Baluba (1996), represents one of the female hosts on the public service station NRK, who has attracted attention and gained popularity, and who can say something about the state of gender negotiations in television. Main elements in Baluba are the selfironical embrace of a female spirit of community with low cultural status, the programs play with conventional gender roles, and the deconstruction of the masculine power-facade of the programs' eminent male guests. Elements of the program can relate to the development in feminist aesthetics in the field of film and literature. The notion of postfeminism invite to other meanings than backlash and antifeminism. Instead, postfeminism can point to a staging of feminity that includes some of the insights of postmodernism and poststructuralism. |
