First, it seeks to contextualize the concession of the Paineiras/Corcovado sector in the broader context of the process of concession the environmental goods throughout the country, and more specifically in Rio de Janeiro within the process of urban marketing directed towards the reception of mega-events (World Cup football, Olympic Games). Then, it analyses the impact of the concession on the practices of the inhabitants of the neighboring favelas. Finally, it will analyze the forms of political mobilization of the inhabitants using, mainly, the follow-up of the meetings of the Technical Chamber of Environmental Education of the Tijuca National Park where a large part of the conflicts over the concession was exposed. Environmental education has played a central role in the organization of residents and in mediation of conflicts. Participatory management of Conservation units therefore requires the consolidation of democratic spaces where participation and social control can exist.
