Summary:Within 1864 and 1898, the paulistano theater was a reflection of any fact taking part on Rio de Janeiro Court and on European cities. Plays that enchanted people in the cities for years were exported. Attending the theaters there was a kind of public avid for diversion and culture at any cost. The first worthy place that deserves the name of “theater” was the Theater São José, which received many Companies, putting on scene plays of Brazilian and Portuguese authors.
