Summary:Transesophageal echocardiography provide a second window for the exploration of the heart, eliminating the limitations of transthoracic echocardiography. Its main indications are: aortic dissection and other aortic diseases, endocarditis, cardiac mass, stenosis and valve failure; valvular prosthesis, congenital cardiopathies, evaluation of the critically ill patient, intraoperative and intervention echocardiography. Transesophageal echocardiography constitutes an excellent complement to transthoracic echocardiography and with the technological development it is possible to expand these indications in the future.
