His approach and his projects are in line with the ideas of Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), Jens Jensen (1860-1951) and Ian McHarg (1920-2001), emblematic figures who marked a turning point in the practice of landscape architecture. Since the beginning of the 1990s, James Corner has been working on the theory and practice of landscape architecture. This work is part of a paradigm shift ; it challenges, in the light of contemporary urban issues, the theoretical foundations, tools, and approaches of landscape architecture. At the end of the 1990s, James Corner contributed, along with architects Charles Waldheim and Mohsen Mostafavi, to defining and developing the concept of Landscape Urbanism as an innovative approach. Through an analysis of James Corner’s writings, this article highlights the evolution of his theory over time and examines the role it has played in the emergence of Landscape Urbanism.http://journals.openedition.org/paysage/20880James Cornertheory of landscape architecturethe practice of landscape architecturerepresentationLandscape Urbanism
