This paper considers the transformation of the Keynesian Welfare State by focusing on the notion of social citizenship which is challenged by the presence of immigrants and gives, as a result, birth to welfare chauvinism. This paper then explores the role the EU has in ‘managing’ migration by considering the common EU migration policy and its impact on member states.
