Summary: | The article presents preliminary results of the collective project “Intergenerational mobility from 20th to 21st century: four generations of Russian history”. It aims to enrich the project’s methodological assumptions by looking for the most effective and promising ways to analyze the collected data. The article sets out explore the ways to fuse different data into a single complex and determines strategies of further analysis. The strategy is based on the socio-biographical approach to social mobility. The article presents its various aspects — intergenerational and intragenerational, a concept of subjective social mobility and variations in merging various types of data — qualitative, quantitative, primary and secondary. The article gets into methodological reflexion faced with a necessity to pass from an empirical to an analytical stage. It delineates possible strategies to analyze variegated data and reveals the logical foundations and complexities of such a transition.
