Acute infective endocarditis masquerading as septic shock with acute respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract Any new pulmonary edema warrants an urgent rule out of acute cardiac dysfunction. Because sepsis protocols emphasize rapid stabilization and treatment over etiologic evaluation, some cases of endocarditis may be missed as sepsis with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
