Description
Summary:Studies on tourism in third world countries often fail to take into account national tourism, possibly because it is viewed as a marginal phenomenon. Observations in the Andean countries and especially in Peru, in Cuzco for example, prove that it is not so. Quantitatively it is as important as foreign tourism, possible even more so. Qualitatively, the different patterns of behavior create complementary ties between these two kinds of tourism. This complementary enabled the tourism sector to remain diversified, and played a crucial role in easing the crisis induced by the severe drop in the frequency of tourism visits experienced by Peru at the beginning of the 90es. In that sense, the ties between both types of tourism are of critical importance.
