Summary: | Steelworks in general and electric arc furnaces (EAF) in particular, are compelling loads to Power Systemas they frequently introduce disturbances in the distribution network near the facility. These disturbancesappear because it is not possible to compensate instantaneously the extremely rapid variations of reactivepower in each phase of the EAF. Reactive power variations, particularly acute at the beginning of themelting process, cause voltage fluctuations that constrain active power supply to the EAF and to otherloads that could be connected at the same bus bar. This paper describes two different technologies likeStatic Var Compensator (SVC) and SVC Light to solve these problems. |
