Summary:In the text I intend to trace the outlines of the thought of the indigenous peoples organizations in Latin America in the last 40 years, who began the elaboration of demands for respect and support for the national states and today propose higher levels of self-management, autonomy, struggle for life and Mother Earth. Simultaneously and often in dialogue with the people mentioned, the main proposals of critical thinking in the anthropological, social and related fields, on the development, alternative development, and post-development sciences. Based on readings and interpretations of various texts on both subjects, personal experience in academic research and supporting local initiatives in Mexico and other countries, as well as the analysis of the processes of the past 10 years, some ways are proposed to continue the critical and reflective dialogue.
