| Summary: | <span>Timeliness of the topic is determined by the fact that living standards are recognized by the international community as one of the main indicators characterizing the development of the countries and peoples. Currently the quality of health care, education, ecological situation, safety, quality of government service cause concern. In 2007, the need to improve the living </span><span>standards was highlighted in the Address of the President of the Russian Federation as the priority direction of state policy. The main purpose of this work was to elicit the opinion of the natives of Vladikavkaz concerning the quality of their life. The basic components of living standards of Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania were examined. Urban processes and civic problems causing anxiety and concern of the population of RNO-Alania were also ranked in the article in order of importance. The main directions of the municipal social policy of the city development and improvement of the living standards were suggested.</span>
