Summary: | In this work, the kinetics of nitrate- and nitrite-removal during the growth of the yeast Rhodotorula glutinis is addressed. More specifically, five different reaction mechanisms are defined as possible candidates to describe the system behaviour at the scale of the industrial process, i.e. unstructured modelling of transient biomass and nutrient concentrations in the pseudo-homogeneous liquid phase. System behaviour in a isothermal Batch reactor is simulated by varying the initial nitrate and nitrite concentrations. In conclusion, a sequence of experimental runs is defined to identify the reaction mechanism more capable to follow the behaviour of the system. |
