Description
Summary:This paper is based on the principle that there is a strong correlation between the vitality of a language and its lexical renovation in a particular time and place. Starting from this idea, I have performed a calculation of new lexical units according to a series of parameters, amongst which I will mention time -in 50 year periods-, dialect., inclusion in a text of a dictionary, grammatical category, register, etc. The results have been analyzed according to each parameters. This kind of study has become feasible for Basque thanks to a dictionary -OEH (General Basque Dictionary)- wich contains the necessary historical and dialectal information. In fact, I have carried out the analysis using my EH (Basque Dictionary), wich is based on the OEH but has a simpler structure and thus made the present study easier.
