Summary: | The article is devoted to the reception of the image of Alexei Remizov in a parody-satirical context of 1906–1916. This aspect of the study of personality and work of Remizov to date has remained beyond the interests of researchers. The examples of the wide mass audience’s perception of verbal and illustrative material (parody, cartoon, caricature) demonstrate the formation of the writer’s literary personality and reputation in the literary environment mainly through periodicals. The idea of Remizov as a modernist was formed in connection with the precedent events that were associated with the stages of the writer’s entry into the circle of modern authors and entailed scandalous resonance due to his shocking speeches that correlated with the stable opinion of a wide readership about the literary tradition. Through public parody and satirical context, stable images of Remizov have been formed, associated not only with the artistic and aesthetic intentions of the writer, but also with the peculiarities of his creative expression. First of all, this is an “infernal” perception of Remizov by his readers in the guise (of a demon or a devil), which was caused not only by the personality of the writer, but also by the current literary situation. Next image ‒ Remizov as a graphomaniac writer ‒ was formed as a result of the accusations in plagiarism, regardless of the author’s intention. The images of an original stylist and a bookish man deepened in the dust of ancient manuscripts were the result of not only readers’ perception, but also of the communication strategy developed by Remizov. The analysis of numerous cartoons, caricatures, and parodies made it possible to trace how, by means of a parody and satirical context, due to events in Remizov’s creative biography, was formed the idea of the writer’s personality and of his place in the historical and literary process of the 1900–1910-s. |
