Summary:This paper presents an analysis of social networks in terms of their possible use in the education system. The integration of new information and communication technologies with the technologies of learning is gradually changing the concept of modern education and promotes educational environment focused on the interests and personal development, achievement of her current levels of education, internationalization and increasing access to educational resources, creating conditions for mobility of students and teachers improving the quality of education and the formation of a single educational space. The peculiarity of such an environment is to provide creative research activity of the teacher and students in the learning process. Network services provide the means by which students can act as active creators of media content. The paper presents the results of a study of the advantages and disadvantages of using web communities in the educational process. Articulated pedagogical conditions of the effective organization of educational process in the virtual learning environment using social networks. The experience of the use of social networks in the learning process of the university. Such networking technologies, such as forums, blogs, wikis, educational portals and automated systems for distance learning, having undoubted didactic and methodological advantages, inferior social networks in terms of involving users in their communication space, as well as compliance with the intellectual, creative and social needs.
