Summary:The Spanish who took shelter in Portugal during the Civil War are distinctive in the European inter-war context. These distinctions, based on historical, political and social considerations are presented in this work. So, the refugees’ migration flows towards Portugal are connected to other worldwide migration flows that had started since the late 19th century. This comparison proves useful to analyze the forced migration flows of Spanish refugees towards Portugal in a belligerent context within a wider picture.
