Summary: | The earliest editions of the Celestina present numerous printer's mistakes, and with the notable mutilated edition of Burgos also some verses stating that Alonso de Proaza worked as «corrector de la impression». These facts lead us to the following conclusions: 1) that in these early editions there was no actual proofreader; 2) that the title of «corrector de la impression» must be understood in the sense of a revision previous to the impression, that is, censure. Besides the approval expressed by this «corrector de la impression» (that is, Proaza) in the final stanzas is the only piece that complies with the Pragmatica issued in 1502 by King Ferdinad and Queen Isabelle, which not only was extremely compelling in that respect but also applied even before its promulgation. |
