Summary: | In a resistance survey that was conducted in 2011 by the Julius Kühn-Institut and EpiGene, several biotypes of Tripleurospermum perforatum with resistance to the active substance tribenuron (ALS inhibitor) were identified. During this survey, the resistant biotypes were characterised regarding their resistance and cross-resistance pattern as well as the molecular basis of resistance. However, for Tripleurospermum perforatum no information was available on the inheritance of the resistance trait and the possibility of a transfer of the resistance trait from resistant to sensitive plants via pollen. As the species T. perforatum is known to be insect pollinated, a transfer of the resistance trait via the pollen was assumed.
To test this hypothesis, a semi-field trial was conducted in 2012. Ten randomly chosen plants from a known resistant biotype (R) were pair-crossed to one plant of a susceptible reference population (S) to produce a total of 10 F1 pair crosses. Plants grown from the F1 seeds were than analyzed for their herbicide sensitivity using dose-response trials and the sensitivity of the F1 generation was compared to sensitivity level of the R and S parent biotypes. |
