However, Baur (1988) says that females present a good performance when they work together with males. The porpose of this study is to determine whether gender differences exist in 9-and 10-year-old children of both sexes when learning basketball. An experimental work was carried out over 21 basketball classes distributed in two mixed groups of 35 male and 26 female children AAHPERD test for basketball was applied at the beginning and at end the experimental work. The statistic “t” test showed a better performance of the females. The results at the end of the work showed this same performence in the application of the rules during the games. This was contrary to perspectives, since males presented important differences (p < 0.01) in the pre-test, in the post-test and in the application of the rules out of the games. The final conclusion is that during the games there are other factors which interfere in the learning process, besides good performance in the basic rules, the latter caused a better performance of females than of males in learning situation.http://186.233.154.254/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/3864basquetebolaprendizagemdesenvolvimento
