Summary:Objective: To observe the effect of local curettage combined with radiotherapy on serum levels of IL-1, TNF-α, VEGF, M-CSF, HIF and NTx in patients with giant cell tumor of bone. Methods: A total of 65 patients with giant cell tumor of long bone that accepted the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment in our hospital from January 2012 to February 2016 were divided into control group and observation group, using the method of retrospective analysis. Another 28 patients in control group were treated by local tumor curettage, patients in the observation group were treated with radiotherapy on the basis of control group, and the serum levels of IL-1, TNF-α, VEGF, M-CSF, HIF and NTx were detected and compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results: Before treatment, there were no significant differences in the serum levels of IL-1, TNF-α, VEGF between the two groups (P>0.05); After treatment, serum TNF, IL-1, VEGF levels in the two groups of patients were significantly decreased compared with the same group before treatment, and the difference was significant (P<0.05), the levels of serum TNF, IL-1, VEGF in the observation group were significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the serum levels of M-CSF, HIF, NTX between the two groups (P>0.05); After treatment, serum M-CSF, HIF, NTX levels in the two groups of patients were significantly decreased compared with the same group before treatment, and the difference was significant(P<0.05), meanwhile, the levels of serum M-CSF, HIF, NTX in the observation group were significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Local curettage combined with radiotherapy can significantly improve the serum levels of IL-1, TNF-α, VEGF, M-CSF, HIF, NTX in patients with giant cell tumor of bone, and the abnormal changes of serum levels of IL-1, TNF-α, VEGF, M-CSF, HIF, NTX can provide some reference for the diagnosis of giant cell tumor of bone and the degree of pathological changes.
