Summary: | Marin D. Drăcea was the most important personality of
Romanian forestry from the interwar period, who had
many exceptional results during his life. One of his achievement was the degree received in 1923 with „Summa
cum laude” of the Ph.D. thesis with title „Contributions
to the knowledge of the Acacia in Romania, with a special look at its culture on the sands of Oltenia”. Besides
the remarkable didactic, scientific and administrative activity, Marin Drăcea also carried out a prodigious activity
within the professional associations, being first vice president and then president of Forestry and Forest Progress
Society. Marin Drăcea contributed in a considerable way
to the progress of the Romanian forestry through its thinking and through its activity, especially between 1919-
1944. At the anniversary of the Centenary of the Great
Union, he deserves to be fully honored by the publication
of one of his reference conferences, which speaks about
Romanian forests. In this context, the work proposed for
„Restitutions” was supported at the Free University of
the Romanian Athenaeum on February 14, 1937. By this
time the „Considerations on the Forestry of Romania”
Conference is primarily an analysis of the relationship
between forest and society, the role played by the human
/ anthropic factor in the existence and condition of the
forest and the forestry sector. After the industrial revolution, the anthropic factor, with its knowledge, habits,
needs and desires, has begun to play a decisive role in
the state, evolution and fate of the forest, having the capacity not only to ensure sustainable forest management
and protection, to destroy and degrade it, more than all
environmental and biological factors together. Removing
this state of affairs lies in both the spiritual and rational
aspects of man, which can be modeled by a nation’s forestry education, by inoculating love and respect for the
forest in everyone’s heart. |
