Les jardins privés : de nouveaux espaces clés pour la gestion de la biodiversité dans les agglomérations ?

Biodiversity management into the urban areas is one of the public policies’ main stakes. One of these policies’ objectives is to maintain biodiversity among the city-dwellers. We propose to work on this question using the large cities’ residential areas’ private gardens. This proposal is based on several observations supported in the literature. The first one is the predominance of stand-alone houses regarding to the city development, these latest decades. The second observation is the forged links’ importance with this private area. The garden is a place where some connections to biodiversity still need to be explored in order to assess their consequences on the citizens’ every-day life behaviours. Finally, gardens form a set of green spaces located into numerous neighbourhoods. The biodiversity’s territorial governance takes original shapes in which the neighbourly relations are certainly predominant.
