Description
Summary:This study focuses on some morphological and semantic features of the conditional in French. The first part proposes a simplified description of the phenomena observed in the conjugation of ‘regular’ and ‘irregular’ French verbs and advocates an approach in terms of combinatory variants of the conditional morpheme. The second part shows how the analysis of a number of formal and semantic features allows for establishing three distinct types of use of the conditional in French.
