This article reviews the history of auxiliary liver transplantation and introduces its indications, including metabolic liver disease, fulminant hepatic failure, kidney transplantation for highly sensitized patients, and prevention of small-for-size syndrome after hepatectomy; meanwhile, this article summarizes the major surgical methods of auxiliary liver transplantation, as well as related hot issues and difficulties.
