Our field survey highlights the way such pupils with disruptive behaviour are then picked out, specifically treated and definitively stigmatized. Generalist teachers saw them as responsible for their painful professional experience. Since they consider them as “unmanageable” in ordinary classes, they are keen to identify and refer them to specialists. Therefore, within the educational institution, a specific category of pupils emerges: “the difficult pupil”. The notification forms supplied by teachers teach us about the construction of this academic and social problem.
