Summary:The interest of historians for the frontier zones has been only partial for long time, as they considered the "grand themes" would be in the centers and not in the borders, themes such as technological advances or so calledrelevant politic schemes. However, the issues of the frontier zones have insistently attended our research agendas in the last few years. The subject of this article is thefore the interethnical relationships – the struggles, the negociations, formation of identities and the fluidity ofthese categories - developed on the borders, matters which we find of utmost relevance. In order to do so, we analyzed a set of "missions" built in the argentinian pampa during the 18th century seeking to understand how much of a limitation the southern boundary and its inhabitant people were to the colonial practices, which were in frank expansion on that century.
