Summary:Entrepreneurship is the engine of innovation and competitiveness of nations. It is mainly characterized by the act of company creation initiated by an individual will of a future entrepreneur. As a result, entrepreneurship capacity is for each country, the result of many factors related to individual opportunities and potentialities. The purpose of our reflection is to study a number  of questions, for the understanding of the entrepreneurial initiative in Algeria, and this, paying particular attention to the motivation of the entrepreneur. In such a context, our problematic revolves around the following central question: What are the motivations of the Algerian entrepreneur with regard to the creation of his company? Our study shows that most entrepreneurs have a strong sense of independence and autonomy and a willingness to be the head of the business. This characteristic is the main motivation to start a business. The creation of private SMEs in Algeria is the result of a set of factors, which are the age of the entrepreneur, the level of education, the previous professional experiences as well as the know-how, the family and social environment in which the individual evolves and in the end the availability of financial resources from state aids.
