| Summary: | In French the concept of "dépaysement" can variously mean "having a change of scenery”, "finding new horizons" and “disorientation”. The concept is often discussed, to evoke, for example, fieldwork or geographies of mobility such as tourism. However it is rare that geographers examine this notion from the perspective of job mobility, which is what this paper aims to do, taking the form of a personal narrative. However, this account of "dépaysement" takes on an unusual meaning, as it seeks to tell of the passage from one continent to another, all the while remaining in Francophone countries. The position of human geography in Quebec is thus explored, leading to a reflection on the modus operandi within Quebec geography, which is at once so far and so close to French geography.
