This paper discusses the urban planning in Brazil, from the proclamation of the Republic, through a brief analysis of the particular phenomenon of the role of the cities as administrative capitals. In its beginning, it presents the paradigms that have formed the use of urban space, from the description of the theoretical and historical ideas that form the understanding of contemporary urban design, reports the history of the administrative capitals of the period, the legal and ideological transformation this movement, and how the State uses the modern concepts of space integration and try to form a speculative thinking about their effects on urban policy, and how these policies have influenced the contemporary context of the Brazilian urban regulation and organization.
