First Trimester Renin and Aldosterone Levels of Pregnant Women With Prognosis of Preeclampsia and/or Related Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes

INTRODUCTION[|]To evaluate first trimester renin and aldosterone levels of pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia and/or related adverse pregnancy outcomes.[¤]METHODS[|]We measured serum levels of renin and aldosterone for pregnant women for first trimester screening test. One hundred eighty pregnant women were included the study and 140 of them completed the study. All pregnant women were followed during pregnancy for developing preeclampsia and related complications. Renin and aldosterone levels of preeclampsia and/or developing poor obstetric groups compared with normal pregnancy outcome group.[¤]RESULTS[|]Preeclampsia developed in 13 pregnant women and one or more poor obstetric outcomes developed in 36 women. Renin and aldosterone levels were not significantly different in preeclamptic women or pregnancy with poor obsteric outcome groups compared with control.[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]We suggest that maternal first trimester renin and aldosterone levels may not play a role in the pathogenesis and prediction of gestational hypertension. [¤]
