Description
Summary:Identities in Transition. Personal and Professional Self-Awareness in Relation to Organizational Change Abstract This work investigates how organizational change has consequences both for the professional and personal identity of workers, as well as the quality of their identification with the organization. Specifically, 12 employees of a small hospital, involved in an organizational change, were given a narrative interview to investigate the impact of ongoing organizational change on their personal and professional identities. Interviews, explored through statistical content analysis procedures, have shown that workers who tend to identify themselves more with their professional role have negative repercussions on self-representation, failing to identify with the organization perceived as unstable and unable to offer security. The perceived inadequacy in this transition phase puts the professional identity and metabolism of change into crisis, affecting the personal choices and the daily lives of those involved. Keywords: organizational change, personal identity, professional identity, narratives, content analysis.
