The main task was to substantiate theoretical foundations on the use of resource potential in the process of shaping the development strategy for agricultural enterprises. The following research methods were used in the study: economic and statistical, abstract-logical, tabular and graphical method. The provision of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine and Zhytomyr region with resource potential has been studied and analyzed, namely land, technical and labor resources. It has been found that the level of resource provision at the investigated enterprises is high, which will contribute to the improvement of their economic activity and increase in the production volumes of agricultural products. When the provision with technical resources was analyzed, it has been established that there is a considerable reduction in main types of machinery; it is obsolete and worn out. This, in turn, leads to increased load on the available agricultural machinery and equipment, as well as to late execution of agricultural works. When the provision of agricultural enterprises with labor resources was analyzed, it has been found that average number of registered personnel engaged in agriculture has reduced, which is associated with the intensified migration processes. The influence of resource potential on the process of shaping the development strategy of agricultural enterprises is substantiated. It consists in achieving strategic goals of an enterprise, improvement of its economic activity, consolidation of the position on the market, increase of competitive ability. Further study might be aimed at the efficiency of resource use, which is based on adherence to principles of balance of resource components.
