Description
Summary:The adaptation of a literary work to cinema or to television always implies something which remains immutable, turning the limits of what is an acceptable diversion or a radical subversion in a double experience to the eyes of the audiences. Concerning Os Maias, by Eça de Queirós, and the adaptation by Maria Adelaide Amaral, the balance between the respect for the novel and the televisual features leads to a complex subject: the adaptation as passage and as border, as debt and as creation. The aim of this work is to enlighten this particular matter by exploring the connection between the construction of character and the principles of adaptation. Therefore, Afonso da Maia e Maria Eduarda are in the ideal position to represent what can be considered the perfective but never perfect labors of adaptation.
