Description
Summary:Abstract Radio theory received an interesting addition when the early writings on radio of Theodor W. Adorno were published for the first time in 2008/2009. This article presents and reviews some of the key elements in what Adorno labelled «radio physiognomics», an attempt to establish a conceptual framework for radio studies that united aesthetics, media analysis and social analysis. Through examination of a book review broadcast by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), the theory is put to work, to learn if, and how, Adorno’s musically centred radio analysis could be transferred to a different, more communicatively oriented, content.
