Summary:A survey has been made of some of the vast quantity of literature currently available, and an attempt is made to explain acupuncture in terms of anatomy, physiology, embryology and psychology. Conditions for which it is claimed to be effective are discussed, and the possible adoption of its practice by physiotherapists is advanced. Areas where investigation and research to this end might profitably be undertaken are indicated.
