Summary:Besides its common meaning, the concept of literacy has become widely used as a term which means defining, understanding, interpreting, negotiating, communicating and calculating a wide variety of written sources belonging to a specific field. As one of these fields, historical literacy encompasses the processes of analyzing, evaluating, explaining available information rather than merely expressing the historical knowledge. Turkish translation of the letter written by Albert Einstein in 1933 in order for German scientists escaping from Hitler’s regime to be employed in Turkey was used in this study as a text source. By practicing on the recent sources in Turkish Language education it is aimed to form an application model for both language and historical literacy skills to be gained. In this study, two qualitative research methods, document analysis and archival research, were used. 8 th grade students were targeted to form the study group. Eleven activities were developed in the framework of 15 objectives for this study. Prepared activities were conducted to 8th graders. After the applications, activities were improved. Furthermore, students’ views and application phases have also been a part of the study
