Summary: | Between the late 1940s and 1990s, organizations sending diocesan priests to Latin America relied on missionary formation centres in Europe (Madrid, Leuven, Verona) or Latin America (Cuernavaca in Mexico, Petrópolis in Brazil). There are intensive courses in Spanish and Portuguese, but an introduction to the culture of the host country is also offered. These centres are still little known, but the available documentation reveals tensions about the meaning given to the preparation of the apostolate. |
