In addition to its meanings of “calming, seating, making homeowner, placing”, it also appears as “settlement, placing, settling, housing” in the dictionaries. In other words, settlement is the planting of wastelands and increasing productivity. It is a well-known fact that the pre-Islamic Turks lived in pastures in summers pasture and in quarters in winters. Turkish rulers had two centers: one in the summer pastures and the other in the valleys. The latter was in the form the settlement areas, along the waterfronts. When the first settlements of Turks who came to the Anatolia are examined, it is seen that they settled in places (mountain foothills and valleys) with remarkably similar characteristics. The reason why the Turks preferred Eastern Blacksea and especially Giresun, is that appropriate housing valleys existed in this region. It became the region in which summer pasture and winter quarters life styles were lived most obviously. Giresun has become one of the most obvious areas of life in the form of summer pasture and winter quarters. The Turkish colonizer dervishes reached and settled down in the territory of Turkey that forms the south of the Black Sea, by using valleys. Some of these dervishes established the zawiyas. The rivers flowing from south to north enabled Oghuz Turks to reach the Black Sea from inner parts. On the one hand, these rivers acted as the cultural centers; on the other hand, they undertook the role of the cultural conveyance. The dervish and river phenomenon also affected belief systems of the inhabitants and newcomers. Turkization and Sunnification was also realized through these zawiyas. Taking into consideration that many places belonging to the past are being destroyed, it is aimed to put the existence of Giresun’s places of zawiyas which are effective in the Turkization and Sunnification. The purpose of this study is to examine briefly the process of development of Turkish settlements in the Eastern Black Sea region, which we use in the field survey, the scanning of main and contemporary resources. http://www.hbvdergisi.gazi.edu.tr/index.php/TKHBVD/article/view/2363/1666
