Description
Summary:Art therapy as a psychotherapy method can be helpful in diagnosis and treatment of many disorders. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of art therapy (visual arts) on the negative symptoms of a number of patients with schizophrenia in the psychiatric center (Ahebba). The method of this study is descriptive as kind of semi experimental with a pre-test/ post-test. Statistical population consisted of all schizophrenic patients in the psychiatric center (Ahebba), among them fourteen patients have been selected through available statistical sampling. The group participated in art therapy sessions for 10 serial 90-minute sessions in four (4) consecutive weeks. To assess the effectiveness of art therapy, the PPAT’s illustrative test and FEATS’s scale of formal element in art therapy have been used. The results from this research shows that art therapy is effective in reducing the negative symptoms (such as anxiety, inattention, depression, low self-steam) in patients with schizophrenia.
