Summary: | A lot of African potentates were exiled during the “Scramble for Africa”. Since then, some images continued to circulate through different social contexts and have gained new meanings in the last years. The analysis of some photographs of Ranavalona III leads to a new interpretation of his life in exile, when the vacation in France allowed him to invent himself. The portraits of the last queen of Madagascar in exile constitute the iconographic corpus of this article that problematizes the use of photographs on social networks in connection with a Malagasy “post-memory”. |
