Description
Summary:Reproductive Performance of Massa Sheep in Far-North's Station of Cameroon. Massa sheep have been introduced to the Yagoua station of the Institute of Animal Research since 1982. A data set on some reproductive parameters from 1986 to 1989 has been constructed and analysed. 381 lambs born as singles, twins and triplets were recorded over that period. The overall average birthweight is 1.93 ± 0.42 kg and male lambs appear to be heavier than females (1.94 ±0.41 kg vs 1.92±0.42 kg). Single lambs are heavier at birth than twins and triplets. Lambs born to adult ewes are heavier than those born to ewe lambs (2.00 ± 0.41 kg vs 1.83 ± 0.41 kg). Age of dams at lambing and the type of birth have significant effects on the birthweight of the lambs.
