Description
Summary:This article aims to understand perceptions and meanings attributed to the identity of the being a nurse, according to the Nursing students from a private institution of higher level within the city of São Paulo. An exploratory investigation was made using the Thematic Oral History method. Therefore, fifteen students of the Nursing undergraduate course were interviewed in 2015. Their words were analyzed under Claude Dubar’s view. It was noted that, despite being newly entered students, they had been working as nursing auxiliares or technicians, aspects related to the professional identity have characterized certain crisi. Their statements brought some revealing ambiguities related to the nurses' job, as well the recognition of their role to the society, such as those statements that have shown some idealistic connotations about being a nurse (mission, vocation, dedication, among others).
