Summary: | The article centered around translation studies discusses the problem of trigger/context cohesion in contiguous extracts with a humorous effect. In contrast to other papers exploring humour within the reviewed paradigm which mostly focus on humour in jokes and anecdotes with one trigger only, this paper analyses such extracts within the literary writing of a bigger size. The article illustrates trigger arrangements through the example of a text fragment and shows some possible combinations of trigger/context correlation in an integral text. The cohesion and interdependence of the elements under discussion can complicate the work of a translator, because they do not only influence the identification of the extracts with humorous effect, but the translation as well. The analysis of possible trigger/context combinations provides translators with knowledge how to detect these specific units of translation and helps them choose an appropriate translation strategy. The author of the paper assumes that possible variants are not specific to the certain linguaculture, but their combination and frequency may demonstrate the author`s idiostyle. |
