The specimens were similar to those examined in the original description of the species and are distinct from Plesiotrygon iwamae Rosa, Castello e Thorson 1987. The three specimens of P. nana have a dorsal coloration composed of fine rosettes and a very small spot on the disc edge, a circular disc which is small and has slightly rhomboidal spiracles, a distal coloration of the tail posterior to the caudal stings and high density of dermic denticles. This finding extends the geographic distribution of P. nana and reports the presence of this potamotrygonid species in small tributaries of white waters from the Upper Rio Juruá.
