Summary: | This paper focuses on analyzing how the economic crisis has affected the tourism employment in France and Spain, two of the main tourist powers, and if this variable has presented a similar behavior before and during the crisis. The main results show the greatest influence on the generation of tourism employment of foreign tourist arrivals in Spain, compared to the level of wealth, in the French case; divergence in regional tourism employment during the crisis in Spain and in France has continued regional convergence in past years; and finally, variations in the components of employment growth in major tourist regions, Catalonia and the Île-de-France, during the crisis.
