In his work on the Last Prophet's biography he has offered a new interpretation of the evolution of Europe from the time of Constantine to that of Charlemagne, claiming that it was the advance of Islam rather than the Germanic invasions and their consequent decline of Western civilization in the Middle Ages. He virulently blames Muslims for their invasions of Europe and calls them looters and plunderers who changed all the trade-routs, whereas he praises the Germans for their invasions because of their loyalty to Christianity, Pirenne concludes that the Islamic onslaught was fast and massive in terms of terriotory and power; that in less than 200 years the Mediterranean was completely in the hand s of Islam: and that Arabian /Syrian/ Egyptian and African trade was consequently ceased; He is of the view that it waw only the rise of '' Mohammedanism " which made Charlemagne succeed effectively in creating his empire. This article attempts to analyze critically the claims of Henri Pirenne in his work. http://al-idah.szic.pk/index.php/al-idah/article/view/473
